Macro Outlook
Satellites are essential to humanity as we know it, but most don’t know it. There are currently thousands of operational satellites that are geostationary or in Low Earth Orbit and they are critical to how the modern world works today. Satellites help us track the weather and natural disasters, allow friends to call friends across the globe, enable businesses to connect with partners and clients via broadband internet through satellite networks, assist militaries in sending secure communications and aid doctors virtually meeting safely with patients among many other essential applications. Although you may not see them, satellites play a critical infrastructure role in breakthrough technologies like cloud computing, 5G, IoT, blockchain/cryptocurrency and big data making them the toll operators of the digital data superhighway.
Today, satellites/communications represent a major portion of the overall space economy. However, many analysts predict that they may become the leading revenue driver for the space economy over the next few decades. Morgan Stanley’s space report states that by 2040, the space economy may be larger than $1 Trillion USD with over 50% coming from satellite communications and internet. [3] YODA has numerous holdings specialising in various areas of the satellite ecosystem like, development, operations, launch and more. If you wish to invest in the picks and shovels of the space industry as well as many other global space participants, you may want to consider YODA, Europe’s first space ETF.
