Cannabis has been cultivated
as a medicinal herb for more than 5,000 years. The earliest signs of its use as
an herbal remedy appeared sometime around 2,500 BC[i].
The plant has also been used as a vehicle for spiritual enlightenment and for
recreation. But only recently has it come out of the shadows and into the
mainstream as a potentially powerful tool in modern medicine.
Here are 10 things you may not
know about the medical cannabis industry:

Cannabis has been used as a medicine for nearly
5,000 years. The earliest evidence coming from pollen found in a
Neolithic ‘Beaker Culture’ grave in the Netherlands[ii]
and other evidence found for use in ancient societies in Egypt, Greece, China,
Scythia and the Indus valley culture.

The UK produces close to 100 tonnes of medical
grade cannabis and hemp a year, making it the largest supplier in the world[iii]

The global medical cannabis industry was ~$11.7
Billion in 2018. This is estimated to grow to as much as ~$148 Billion by
2026[iv]

Cannabis is now legal for medical use 28
European countries[v]
and ~40 countries worldwide.

Cannabis contains over 113 Cannabinoids,
many of which have medical and therapeutic applications that are only now being
discovered

“Cannabinoids” are the primary chemical components
found in Cannabis. They include THC which makes you high and CBD which is the
