Nvidia continues to power the AI revolution
Nvidia is the inventor of the GPU (Graphic Processing Unit), which creates interactive graphics on laptops, workstations, mobile devices, notebooks and PCs.
The company focuses on personal computer (PC) graphics, graphics processing unit (GPU) and also on artificial intelligence (AI). Their platforms primarily service four markets; gaming, professional visualization, data centers and automakers.
Nvidia provides its service to customers through PC, mobile and cloud architectures. Its Tegra mobile processors work on smartphones and tablets and assist with vehicle navigation and entertainment systems.
The company developed GPU-based deep learning to use artificial intelligence which allows them to approach problems relating to cancer detection, weather prediction, and self-driving vehicles. For example, they are included in all Tesla vehicles.
In October 2018 the graphics chipmaker announced that Volvo would begin using its AI computer to deliver autonomous features in all its next-generation vehicles. According to the company, Nvidia’s chips and computing systems are being used by about 320 companies involved in self-driving vehicles. Nvidia offer both advanced driver assistance systems, plus the cars feature a driver monitoring system and 360-degree surround perception.
Nvidia remains the largest GPU player. Its GPUs increase the speed of applications used in a variety of fields including aerospace, bio-science research, mechanical simulations, and energy exploration. They have already had an impact on scientific discovery, including improving heart surgery, HIV/Aids research and mapping the human genome.
Nvidia is also focused on deep learning, AI and accelerated analytics.
Nvidia recently unveiled a new graphics-chip design for computer gamers. Its GeForce line of chips for gamers, currently generates more than half of Nvidia’s sales. These gaming platforms use three-dimensional (3D) software and algorithms - including its extensive GameWorks libraries providing various special effects for games.
