- Proxy voting means that investors in these ETFs can be assured that the underlying holdings are being held to a high standard and governed with ESG values in mind.
June 2023, London
HANetf, Europe’s first and only independent white-label UCITS ETF and ETC platform, and leading provider of digital asset ETPs, is delighted to announce that Sprott Energy Transition Materials UCITS ETF (SETM) has now joined iClima Global Decarbonisation Enablers UCITS ETF (CLMA) by employing proxy voting. [1]
CLMA became the first HANetf fund to make use of proxy voting in 2022, and this month, SETM has become the second.
Crucially, the proxy voting system helps to ensure that companies included within the ETFs are held accountable for their environmental impact, climate risk management, diversity and inclusion initiatives, and adherence to responsible business practices.
This powerful mechanism ensures that investors’ values are represented in the underlying holdings of CLMA and SETM by pushing for sustainable practices, strong environmental policies, and social responsibility.
CLMA, the world’s first climate change ETF, provides exposure to the performance of companies offering products and services that enable CO2e avoidance. It tracks the iClima Global Decarbonisation Enablers Index, an index designed to measure the performance of securities from five sub-sectors including green energy, green transportation, water and waste improvements, decarbonisation enabling solutions and sustainable products.
Despite the string of declassifications at the beginning of 2023, CLMA has retained its status as an Article 9 fund under the Sustainable Finance Disclosure Regulation (SFDR), the highest attainable grade.[2] This accentuates its inherent goal to enable CO2 avoidance solutions.
SETM provides exposure to energy transition materials, which will be increasingly essential as pressure mounts to reduce dependence on fossil fuels in favour of low-carbon and renewable energy sources. The need to move towards a net-zero economy should boost demand for these metals, in turn boosting their price. The ETF is also classified as SFDR Article 8, given its objective to accelerate the energy transition.
Hector McNeil, Co-CEO and Co-Founder of HANetf, comments: “We are delighted that SETM and CLMA incorporate proxy voting. At HANetf, we recognise that good governance is important to investors, and we are continuously assessing and evolving our approach. Initiatives such as this reaffirm our commitment to ensuring that companies are held to account and directed according to our investors’ values, and to the values of the ETFs themselves.”
Please remember that the value of your investment may go down as well as up and past performance is no indication of future performance. When you trade ETFs, your capital is at risk.
